How Far Have We Come?

Did you ever wonder about who invented the odometer, and how travelers calculated distance traveled before its invention? Well, William Clayton invented the odometer May 12, 1847. He was a Mormon pioneer on his way west when he invented it. Prior to its invention  a rag was tied on a wheel spoke and they counted the revolution and manually calculated the distance based on the circumfluence of the wheel and the number of revolutions. Obviously, the person running next to the wheel count those revolutions knew how to count, and probably stayed in excellent shape.
